How the finder works
Most heat-press headaches come from starting in the wrong place. This finder gives you a sensible, widely-cited starting point for each method and material so you are not guessing on the first press. Pick your method — sublimation, DTF, UV DTF, HTV/vinyl, or airbrush — then pick the blank or material, and the result card shows a temperature, time, pressure, and a short peel or technique note.
Every number here is a common starting point, never a guarantee. Printers, inks, films, vinyls, blanks, and presses all vary, and even two presses of the same model can read a few degrees apart. The makers who waste the fewest blanks are the ones who test on a scrap, adjust one variable at a time, and then write down the exact setting that worked for their shop so they can repeat it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the right heat press settings? +
Pick your method (sublimation, DTF, UV DTF, HTV/vinyl, or airbrush) and the material or blank you are pressing. The finder instantly shows a common starting temperature, time, and pressure, plus peel and technique notes. Treat every value as a starting point — always run a test press on a scrap first and record what works for your machine.
What temperature should I use for sublimation? +
A common starting point for sublimation on polyester shirts is 385–400°F (196–204°C) for 40–60 seconds with light-to-medium pressure. Hard blanks, mugs, tumblers, coasters, and slate each run at slightly different temperatures and much longer times — select the blank in the finder to see its starting settings.
What settings does a DTF transfer need? +
For DTF, cure the adhesive powder at 250–270°F until it looks shiny, then press the film onto the garment at 300–320°F (150–160°C) for 10–15 seconds with medium-firm pressure. Peel hot or cold according to your specific film, then add a second press of 5–10 seconds to set the print.
Do these settings work for every machine? +
No — every printer, film, blank, vinyl, and press behaves a little differently. The numbers in the finder are common starting points, not guarantees. Always test on a scrap first, adjust, and write down the exact setting that works for your setup so you can repeat it.
Is the Press Settings Finder free? +
Yes. The finder is completely free to use with no email or sign-up required. If you want every setting in one printable file plus logs to record your own winning settings, the Ultimate Settings Pack is a $7 instant download.
